Why starter is not necessary for a D.C series motor?

           Since series field winding is connected in series with armature,it will carry the same amount of current that passes through the armature.For this reason field is made up of heavy gauge wire that is large enough to carry the load.Since the wire gauge is so large,the winding will have only a few turns.In some large rating D.C series motors the field winding is made up of Copper bar rather than conventional round wire used for power distribution.This type of winding can also radiate more easily the heat that has build up in winding due to large current.So it can easily carry the heavy starting current.Hence there is no necessity of starter in case of D.C series motors.
