In microwave oven microwaves of high energy but low wave lengths ( about 12 cm) are produced with the help of a device known as magnetron. TheseThese microwaves are reflected on to the cooking vessel where the food is stored.This high energy micro waves vibrate the molecules of the food at very high frequency which in turns produces huge amount of heat energy.These heating of food is much more uniform than any other method of heating.But we can only use nonmetallic containers to store the food inside the oven because metallic containers reflects the electromagnetic waves.
