What is Ferranti Effect ?

Ferranty effect is occurres in transmission lines which carries electricity from one place to another. " the receiving end voltage will be more than sending end voltage " this is called Ferranty effect.
Ferranty effect occurres in longer transmission lines due to the effect of inductance and capacitance. The longer transmission lines draw a sufficient amount of charging current during transmission. When this line is open circuited or lightly loaded , the reactive power supplied by the capacitance is combinds with the voltage at the receiving end.Hence the voltage at receiving will be more than that at sending end.
By the use of shunt reactors and series capacitors Ferranty effect can be reduced .
